Health Financing

Revenue for the public health care services comes from two primary sources:

1. Public financing through taxation;
2. Private financing through health insurance, fee-for-service, and other types of out-of-pocket expenditure, such as, pooled insurance funds via employer-employee contributions.

The Ministry of Health receives its funding through annual provisions voted by the Barbados Parliament. The public health services are organized to facilitate universal accessibility and, in many cases free at the point of service to Barbadian citizens and permanent residents.
