Environmental Health Services
The Environmental Health Department of the Ministry of Health and Wellness seeks to reduce morbidity and mortality of communicable diseases through programs and activities aimed at reducing environmental health risks. The department provides specific services under the following units:
- The Environmental Sanitation Unit
- The Animal Control Centre
- The Vector Control Unit
- The Food Safety Programme
- The Polyclinic Environmental Unit
- The Port Health Unit
- The Environmental Health Specialist Unit
- The Community Health Liaison Officer
- The Epidemiological Surveillance Unit
Environmental Health Services include Vector Control, Environmental Sanitation, Food Inspection, Animal Control, Occupational Health, and Institutional Health. The Environmental Health Officers maintain the inspections and licensing programme for hotels, restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, and hairdressers, in keeping with the requirements set out in the respective regulations of the Health Services Act.
