Care of the Elderly
The Ministry of Health and Wellness provides care for the elderly through the Geriatric Hospital and St. Philip, St. Lucy, and Gordon Cummins District Hospitals which provide in-patient long-term care for the elderly. The Geriatric Hospital also houses an adult daycare programme.
This programme also includes the Alternative Care of the Elderly, which is a partnership arrangement between the MHW and private sector providers of long-term care for the elderly. The Alternative Care of the Elderly programme manages the placement and compensation related to persons placed in private facilities under the government’s elderly care programme.
