Pharmacy Council of Barbados
The Pharmacy Council was established in 1973 under the Pharmacy Act Cap 372 D and has responsibility for:
- Deciding on matters relating to the registration of pharmacists;
- Ensuring the maintenance of high standards of practice and conduct among pharmacists;
- Deciding on matters relating to the registration of persons as authorised sellers of poisons;
- Make recommendations to the Minister of Health and Wellness as to the proper administration of the Pharmacy Act members comprise the Council;
- Registration of private pharmacies and pharmaceutical warehouses;
Nine members constitute the Council as follows:
- the Director of the Barbados Drug Service;
- three (3) pharmacists appointed by the Minister after consultation with the Barbados Pharmaceutical Society;
- one (1) pharmacist engaged in the teaching of pharmacy
- one (1) medical practitioner appointed by the Minister after consultation with the Barbados
Association of Medical Practitioners;
- three (3) persons at the Minister’s discretion
