Childhood Nutrition Surveillance Study
The nutritional health and dietary habits of children ages six to 11 will be the focus of a Childhood Nutrition Surveillance Study.
It is being conducted by the George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre and The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, in collaboration with the Shaw Centre for Paediatric Excellence.
All eligible children and their parents or guardians are invited to participate in the study which will involve physical measurements (for example height, weight, blood pressure and waist measurements) and a brief questionnaire.
The findings will contribute to understanding childhood nutrition and help shape policies to better support children’s health.
Children and parents may register their interest by visiting the study site at https://redcap.link/childnutrition or calling the research team at (246) 255-3460. They may also return invitation forms, which were distributed at randomly selected primary schools. The study will run until June 2025.
For more information, persons may email childhood.nutrition.surveillance@cavehill.uwi.edu, or visit the Childhood Nutrition Surveillance Facebook page for updates.
The study has obtained ethical approval from The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus and the Ministry of Health’s Institutional Review Board (CREC-CH.00188/05/2023). Approval was also obtained from the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training.
