Ministry Encourages Parents To Get Their Children’s Eyes Checked

Parents and guardians are reminded that routine eye screening to identify visual deficiencies in children, aged three to five, is available at four of the island’s polyclinics.

The polyclinics are Branford Taitt, Black Rock; Eunice Gibson, Warrens; Winston Scott, Jemmotts Lane, which are all in St. Michael; and Randal Phillips in Oistins, Christ Church.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness advises that visual acuity or sharpness of vision should be tested as soon as a child is able to identify images on the eye-screening charts.

A child’s vision and eye alignment should be checked during the specified age range, and parents are encouraged to have their little ones screened at the clinic nearest to them.

Early screening, detection, and necessary treatment of visual deficiencies are important interventions to protect a child’s vision.

To make an appointment, parents/guardians may call or visit any of the island’s polyclinics and have their child’s national identification number or card readily available.
