Ministry Of Health And Chinese Embassy Sign MoU


The Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the dispatch of the eighth cohort of the Chinese Medical Team to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Barbados.

The MoU was officially signed by Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Wayne Webster, and Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, Lei Hao.

Acting Chief Operations Officer at the QEH, Henderson Pinder, who attended the signing ceremony, explained that the Chinese Medical Team exchange commenced in 2016.  He added that the services being offered through this collaboration were extremely beneficial to the people of Barbados with the teams providing opportunities for the exchange of technical and clinical information, skills, and competencies.

Mr. Pinder praised the work of the outgoing seventh cohort of the medical team, thanking them for their commitment, dedication and hard work, adding that he looked forward to working with the eighth team. He further noted that the medical and nursing teams had done “extremely well”, stating that they possessed an enviable work ethic that should be emulated.

“The eighth delegation of the Chinese Medical Team will continue to offer fields of specialised training, scientific research and clinical work for both the nursing and medical teams. I look forward to the time when we will be able to have a full exchange of nurses also. Thank you for choosing Barbados and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“I am confident that your journey will be a productive, educational, and inspiring one. We look forward to a framework of expanding agreements between Barbados and China, as we continue to build a global community of health for all,” the Acting Chief Operations Officer stated.

Mr. Hao agreed that the China Medical Team has earned high praise from Barbadians, noting that the team has become a symbol of the friendship which exist between Barbados and China.

“I believe the eighth cohort of the China Medical Team will continue to contribute their professional medical skills as a good service for the people of Barbados,” he said.

The team, which comprises eight medical professionals, carry out medical activities and exchange expertise in areas such as diagnostics and treatment techniques, medical discipline development, clinical talent training, and healthcare management.
