Nutrition Month Activities Will Begin At Agrofest

Barbadians and visitors looking for a mix of nutrition guidance and food sampling should visit the National Nutrition Centre’s (NNC) booth at Agrofest 2026, Queen’s Park, Constitution Road, St. Michael, from Friday, February 27 to Sunday, March 1.

The Centre’s participation in the annual agricultural exhibition will unofficially start activities for Nutrition Month, which begins in March with the theme “Fuelling Wellness, Preserving Culture”.

Nutrition officer at the NNC, Glencill Taylor, said the booth will focus on teaching members of the public about how to read food labels; sharing information on various aspects of nutrition to achieve healthy lifestyles; and teaching on the correlation between nutrition and cancer.

There will also be demonstrations and sampling of foods that are culturally relevant such as breadfruit and corn meal cou-cou served with mackerel gravy. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the booth.

This year’s theme for Nutrition Month seeks to highlight links between culture and health while exploring opportunities and threats to food security. It also highlights the importance of maintaining cultural norms that promote health and wellness, with special emphasis on lifestyle choices related to diet and physical activity.

During the month, nutrition professionals will deliver targeted messages and activities related to the theme.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Senator Lisa Cummins, will address a church service to commence the month of activities on Sunday, March 1, at the St. Mary’s Anglican Church, St. Mary’s Row, Bridgetown.

Members of the public should check the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Barbados Government Information Service’s social media platforms for targeted nutrition messages and videos, and for updates on community nutrition activities during the month of March.
