Public Urged To Remain Mosquito Vigilant
The Ministry of Health and Wellness is cautioning members of the public that there could be an increase in mosquito breeding due to the frequent rainfall, and the potential of an outbreak of mosquito-borne illnesses.
As a result, Environmental Health Officers will be stepping up their mosquito surveillance and control efforts islandwide.
Householders and businesses are advised to check their environs weekly for mosquito breeding, and any larvae found should be destroyed. The presence of adult mosquitoes should be reported to the Environmental Health Department of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
Persons are also urged to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites with appropriate skin coverings, mosquito nets, or chemical insect repellents containing DEET or Picaridin.
Medical practitioners are reminded that suspected dengue cases should be reported to the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
The public may contact the Environmental Health Department’s new complaints line at 536-4169, to make reports and to have any queries addressed.
