Caribbean Wellness Day (CWD) is one of the regional responses to the threat posed by non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The day was conceptualised by the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and an integral part of the Port of Spain Declaration. The idea was formalised at a meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on 15 September 2007 on the occasion of a special Regional Summit on Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Since that meeting member states have actively sought to make their populations aware of the threat of NCDs to their health and wellbeing and to the development gains of their societies.
