Parents and guardians of children 10 to 12 years old may access free eye screening for them at four of the island’s polyclinics.
They are Branford Taitt Polyclinic, Black Rock; Eunice Gibson Polyclinic, Warrens; Winston Scott Polyclinic, Jemmotts Lane, in St. Michael and Randal Phillips Polyclinic, Oistins, Christ Church.
Children in this age group should receive annual vision screenings, as these checks can help identify conditions such as near-sightedness, keratoconus, crossed eyes, allergies, and other visual deficiencies. These screenings include assessments of visual acuity, eye alignment, and colour vision.
Early screening, detection, and treatment are important in protecting a child’s vision and supporting healthy development.
If parents/guardians notice their children/wards squinting, rubbing their eyes frequently, complaining of headaches, experiencing blurred vision, or having difficulty reading, these may be signs of possible vision problems.
To make an appointment, individuals may call or visit any of the four polyclinics listed above and have the child’s national identification card readily available.
