Health Promotion Unit

The Health Promotion Unit of the Ministry of Health and Wellness functions primarily in a supportive role to all of the programmes of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and in particular addresses Non-Communicable Diseases, Environmental Health, Primary Care, Injury Prevention (Road Safety), Mental Health, Communicable Diseases, Infection Control and the Drug Service.

The Health Promotion Officer is a member of the National NCD Commission and facilitates the activities of the National Task Force on Wellness. These two statutory boards have been mandated to develop and implement policies and programmes to address the rising level of NCDs.

The Wellness Component of the Ministry of Health and Wellness is promoted by the Health Promotion Unit, and focused on facilitating community activities, which incorporate eight dimensions of wellness: physical, intellectual, environmental, occupational, financial, spiritual, social and emotional.
